See, I had an interview for the bakery at New Seasons Market, but hadn't submitted my resume with the application. So I brought it to the interview, and handed it to the bakery manager while meeting her. As she looked it over, especially all those numbers you suggested adding, she was super impressed, and by the time she actually started asking me questions, I could tell she wanted to hire me. I had to do another interview with the store manager, and there I used some of your suggestions about discussing salary, and so they offered to start me at $10/hr. That's not a huge amount, but compared to most other bakeries, it's really generous (most offered around $8). I don't even like resumes. The whole idea of trying to summarize your work life on a piece of paper seems absurd at best. I like job interviews even less; in fact, I'm convinced nobody on either side of the table enjoys that stiff, awkward process. So it goes without saying that the whole process of looking for a job - getting my resume in shape, making contacts, and "selling myself" - seems like less fun than, say, camping in the rain.

And yet I have this fantastic new job. I heard about a position that was perfect for me, sent my resume over, had one brief, informal interview, and suddenly found myself making more money than ever before and actually enjoying my work. But here's what was different in this job search: Jennifer Rydell helped me with my resume.

Sure, she doesn't have any control over what's in a resume, but she knows what resumes are supposed to look like, and she knows what the people who read them are looking for. In my case, she took what has been a simple list of jobs - "I worked here, and then I worked here, and then here and here" - and turned it into something entirely different.
